The reliability
problems associated with transmission or gear box equipped wind turbines and
the existing solutions of using direct drive gear less turbines and
torque-splitting, are reviewed as alternative solutions we propose the Geared
Turbofan Engine (GTF) technology, from the automobile industry, and discus
their promise in addressing the Gear Box problems currently encountered by
